How to Point Your
Domain Name
to Your Web Server (Host)

You have a domain name, now you have to
point it to your name server so when someone types your domain
name in the address bar your web-site appears. This is really
very easy. First you have to get the web address of your name
server from your host. Usually there are two of them. I’ll use
Godaddy.com as my example because that is one I am familiar
with. You can use the tool at the bottom of the page to
check for a domain name.
Log into your Godaddy
account and under Domains click on my domain names, Then select
the domain you want to set, then under manage domain names
click set name servers. You then type in the two name server
addresses your host sent you, when you got a hosting
account, usually in your e-mail. I would suggest printing
this e-mail off and keeping it in a safe place. You then
press save changes. Your done. It sometimes takes around 24 hrs
for it to work.
Internet Marketing
Tips!
Once your website is live it takes a
while for your site to get spidered and show up on some search
engines. You can submit your site on MSN by typing in your
address and click enter. If it says no results for that address
and asks you to submit a site you know exists. I wouldn’t do
this for the other larger search engines, instead find similar
sites that will use reciprocal link to yours and you will find
that faster. Sometimes it can still take a while, so be
patient.
