Internet marketers who build their own websites should have basic knowledge of Search Engine Optimization. You will need traffic to your sight and this can bring you targeted free traffic.

I’ve mentioned SEO (search engine optimization) a few times and now I will go into a little more detail. You really should optimize your website while you are building it to make it search engine friendly.

  For content sights which are many page websites, you want every page search engine friendly. Stay away from trying to trick the search engine spiders. Adwords sights should also be search engine friendly. More on this in the Adwords section.

             The basics are as follows: 

  • Pick your Domain name with what your selling in mind. Ex: You are selling  hockey sticks, go for HockeySticks.com or SticksForHockey.com
  • Make your title also with what your selling in mind. Ex: Snapshot Hockey Sticks
  • Make sure your description is not too long but gets your point across.
  • Place your main keyword close to the beginning of your content and throw it in again in every paragraph but make sure it makes sense. Make sure you get it in to your content near the end of your content.
  • Place links to all your web pages from your home page and back again from your web pages. When you are adding hyper links (links) to your web pages use one of your keywords as the link and a keyword to get you back home again.
  • Optimize all your pages
  • Add reciprocal links to your link page once you get your website up and running
  • This will get you started, you can refine your site by changing your title or description a little bit at a time, but wait until your website has been indexed for a bit before making changes. You may want to add a little more content but not too much on your home page. Keep adding reciprocal links each week.
  • It takes time for the search engines to spider your site, sometimes weeks. Be patient and work on getting reciprocal links to your site this will get your site indexed faster.
